The RUK Area (Rekawa, Ussangoda & Kalametiya) is located between Tangalle and Ambalantota in the deep south of Sri Lanka, a 5½ hour drive from Colombo. The drive is through picturesque coastal areas with much touristic significance. From the Colombo International Airport it is a drive of 6 hours or less than an hour by chartered helicopter (arranged with advanced notice). The RUK area is a 22 km stretch of a coastal belt between the 202-224 km posts on the Colombo - Hambantota Road. Several key tourist attractions such as the Yala and Udawalawa National Parks, Madunagala Hot Springs and Kataragama Sacred City are all within close proximity and can be day tours for you.
An alternative route to get to The Hide@Kalametiya is on the Colombo - Ratnapura (City of Gems) - Ambilipitiya - Nonagama road. At the Nonagama junction a right turn need be made on the Hambantota - Colombo Road and proceed 4 km towards Tangalle. All the way from Colombo, this is a well laid out highway and the trip can be made in less than 5 hours. It also exposes you to rural Sri Lanka and offers a very pleasant drive across the interiors of the island. |
