Kalametiya Bird Sanctuary |
| A 50 meters walk from The Hide@Kalametiya, this extensive wetlands area of lagoons and mangrove swamps is one of the few remaining bio-diversity rich areas on the south coast. Migrant wading birds and small mammals are common, best observed from November to March. Nominated by the IUCN-Sri Lanka for Ramsey Status declaration for wetland biodiversity it is home to a wide variety of bird species making it a special place for serious bird watchers too. Pleasant under-utilised roads run along the edge of the lagoon also covering the adjacent Lunama lagoon and the Ussangoda prehistoric site. Organised services for boating to the isolated vegetation at the centre are available as well as guided walking and bicycling tours. |
