The team that developed The Hide@Kalametiya has been catalyst in assisting and supporting the following community operated projects in the area, and recommends them to our guests and their friends encouraging them in its further sustainance and development:

Ruk Diya Ecostop

IMGThe RUKDiya Eco Stop is operated by the family of Sudath Andaraweera, a mid-aged community participant of the RUK area. It has three modest rooms for budget-conscious travellers eager to enjoy the nature of the Rekawa-Ussangoda-Kalametiya area. RUKDiya works in concert with The Hide and the Kalametiya Campsite.

The family makes excellent food preparations and guests at The Hide@Kalametiya are encouraged to visit the RUK Diya Eco Stop for a meal. It can also be recommended for those seeking modestly priced accommodation.

Among other things, the RUKDiya Eco Holidays Community Group is managing a boat tour on the close by Lunama lagoon, bicycling tours and walking tours. A mangrove and herbal plant rehabilitation project and installing two solar panels at the Eco Stop is set up sponsored by the IUCN. The former, while also providing employment, will make local youth leaders in natural resource conservation efforts. The latter is intended to teach about alternative energy options.

The Rukdiay Ecostop is located just 1 km from The Hide@Kalametiya towards Nonagama. There are signs on both sides of the road. The facility is to the left.

Direct bookings at the Rukdiya Ecostop may be made by telephoning Sudath or his wife Nilantha on 047 5672566 or 0779646851.
